Song of Songs: The History

Song of Songs was a contemporary music ministry group which first formed in the mid 1970's by Mark Waner, his wife Debbie, and her sister Gina. They were known by a variety of names "Mark & Deb" or "Canaan" among others. In 1980 lead guitarist-vocalist-songwriter John Boda joined and they became "Song of Songs". In 1981 John Boda asked his friend and former bass player Kerry Potter from their previous band - Apocalypse - to join and fill out the sound and ministry!

Song of Songs became:

Mark Waner - Vocalist-songwriter-guitarist

Deb Waner - Vocalist

Gina Hysom - Vocalist

John Boda - Vocalist-songwriter-lead guitarist

Kerry Potter - Bass

They were based in Wichita Kansas and played at coffee houses, churches, festivals and anywhere they could!

Thier first album simply entitled "Song of Songs" was recorded and released on cassette tape in 1982 and the 2nd and last album was entitled "Till the Reign Comes" and released on vinyl record and cassette in 1984.

All of the songs were original scripture based songs written by both Mark Waner and John Boda reflecting deep spiritual truth and concepts directly insprired from the Bible. The group disbanded in 1986 with each moving on to different paths yet remianing in Wichita except John Boda, who went on the road full time with another group and then moved back to his home town of Chicago where he resides today.

John Boda saved the master tapes and many photographs and has created this web site to highlight the group and the music available. Please visit "The Album" page for information on how to purchase the remastered anthology of both albums on one CD
